GEFCO extends framework agreement on social responsibility to 22 subsidiaries

250 tangible actions
Nearly 250 actions have been launched: 180 in 2007 and 2008 and 66 in 2009. They are divided into four main areas:
- The respect of fundamental human rights
- Health, safety and working conditions
- Dialogue between labour and management
- The elimination of discrimination and promotion of equal opportunities

Examples of actions taken by GEFCO in application of the agreement
· At Group level, a series of measures taken on working conditions halved the number of workplace accidents
between 2006 and 2008.
· More than half of the countries have implemented systems enabling employees to report any violation of personal
dignity.
· In the UK in 2007 and 2008, 190 managers were trained on the respect of principles of conduct in relations with
employees.
· In 2009, GEFCO Spain signed an agreement on professional equality between men and women and on diversity.
· In France, an agreement on professional insertion and job retention for people with disabilities was signed by six
trade union organisations on 13 June 2008. The agreement is based on several aspects: information and
awareness of disabilities; recruitment; job retention; the development of partnerships with specialised entities; the
prevention of occupational risks; and assistance in equipment purchases.
· In Germany, one of the key priority actions as part of the framework agreement on social responsibility is
verifying safety standards and working conditions for people with disabilities through the implementation of an
assessment grid and, where necessary, corrective action.
· GEFCO Slovakia employees participate in "Health Week" every year. The aim of this week is to highlight the
importance of a healthy diet and to raise awareness on occupational stress and the dangers of smoking. Various
sporting activities and blood sugar level and cholesterol measurements are included as part of this week. These
practices follow on from those developed in Brazil, Argentina, Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands.
· GEFCO Hungary signed a charter on health in September 2008 on an initiative from the Franco-Hungarian
Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Signatory companies commit to leading actions in favour of improving the
working conditions of their employees.
· In 2009, GEFCO Ukraine organised an information session on the fight against alcoholism and tobacco and drug
addiction.
· GEFCO Turkey has produced an interview guide for managers concerning the recruitment process, enabling
them to conduct interviews as objectively as possible.
· GEFCO Spain rolled out a programme called ALARES in 2009 to help Spanish employees improve the balance
between their professional and private lives.
· Several solidarity campaigns have been organised in Brazil, including donations of clothing and food to victims of
the floods in Santa Catarina in the first half of 2009.

Innovative agreement
This innovative agreement is based on real dialogue between social partners and GEFCO subsidiaries.
Each of the GEFCO subsidiaries that applies the agreement has to respect 14 commitments, for which it organises three
priority actions a year. A global review is presented every three years and possible changes to the agreement are
discussed. In addition, an audit is carried out every year in randomly chosen countries to monitor progress made. The
auditors belong to an external body specialised in this kind of approach.
